Today's Topic: Something to Write About
I have a lot to write about, but what if I didn't? It occurred to me that I could very easily write about the fact that I had nothing to write about, which would be very similar to this, even though, in this case, I have other things to write about but have chosen not to write about them.
You might be thinking that I don't really have anything to write about and that I'm just saying that I do to make you think that I do. I considered writing a list of topics that I could have written about in order to prove that I did have something else to write about, but that would be silly. I don't really feel the need to justify that I have something else to write about. Surely, someone who can write this much about what to write about could come up with something else to write about. Creatively, there are all sorts of options, but for my purposes here, it is best not to stray too far from the main topic and to keep my focus, which is, very simply, to write about what to write about without ever writing about anything else. That is what I'm writing about.
Now that I've clarified what I'm writing about, which, as you read previously, is to write about what to write about without digressing, I am not left with too many options. Presenting a list of "things I have now prevented myself from writing about" would be as pointless as providing a list of things I could have written about, if not more so. Even though the whole point of this little escapade is to be relatively pointless, I am attempting to be pointless within certain self-imposed guidelines, which, by their very nature, exclude the actual listing of lists, even though the mentioning of said lists is acceptable. Also be advised that I am not looking for subjects to write about (because I genuinely do have many), and I am aware that the reader may wish that I had chosen any of those other subjects to write about rather than this particular one. If the reader does provide the author with a list of alternate topics, in hopes that I never, ever, chose a topic like this one again, be aware that such lists, along with my own lists, will not be included in this column, not only because of my decision to exclude them, but also because it will be too late. The damage is already done.
I, at this time, would like to thank you for persevering clear through to the end of this column, unless you cheated and skipped ahead to the end, in which case I suggest that you now go back and read the rest, because there is a chance (slim, but still a chance) that I hid something interesting in the midst of this column about something to write about. Thank you for joining me.
